Want to sing with Natty?

Naturally Sharp is a group of normal guys who like to get together 3 times a week to create A Cappella renditions of today’s greatest pop hits, as well as a few older tunes. Come out and show us what you’ve got, and we’ll give you the chance to be one of VT’s own Natty Boys.

All you need to do to prepare is have 16 bars or so of a song (1 verse or chorus) ready to sing for us.

When are auditions?

Auditions are September 2nd from 8:30 - 10:30pm in the Squires Jamestown Room, and September 5th from 5:00 to 7:00pm in the Squires Cardinal Room.

Do I need any musical training or experience?

Not at all! Some of our best members had never even set foot in a choir room before joining the group, so don’t let your lack of experience hold you back!

Do you guys do anything besides just practice?

We do a lot! One day we may be serenading the some of the ladies of VT’s sororities, and the next we’ll be singing at a fundraiser for the elderly! We even leave campus on occasion to put on shows with other groups from places like Roanoke, Villanova, and Wake Forest. If that’s not enough for you, all of it builds up to our end of semester concert.

Hi. I’m John and I’m a Junior here at Virginia Tech, currently studying Business Informations Technology and minoring in Economics. I’m currently the smallest member of Naturally Sharp (height wise and weight wise) and sing tenor for them. I really enjoy singing boy band songs by groups like Soul Decision, N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees (basically any 90’s music that I grew up listening to). My hobbies include singing, playing guitar, listening to music, Frisbee, volleyball, or tennis. I also doing geeky stuff like Photoshop or web page making,

Well my real name is Joe Barlow, but my Natty Boys call me Joe Boxer.  I joined the group in September of 2009 and have been throwing down sick beats ever since.  I have had music in my life since I was in 3rd grade and sang at my first class show.  I also played the viola for 10 years but found my true passion in vocal percussion.  I am a Mechanical Engineering major from Chantilly, VA (7-0-3 represent).  I like ice cream, long walks on the beach, and most importantly Hokie Football.

Voice Part: Tenor II

Greetings everyone! They call me Gus. I’m a sophomore CEE major from Atlanta, Georgia. I joined Naturally Sharp in the Fall of ’09 wanting to stay involved with music after my high school years. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can bethink. Over the ages, I’ve played piano, cello, guitar, slapped a little bass, and sung in several choral groups.

I usually listen to a hodgepodge of indie, folk, and alternative. When I’m not at Natty rehearsals or performances I’m usually clownin’ around with friends, playing and writing music, hittin’ the books, or feasting. I also love sports, especially soccer and Hokie football. Gobble Gobble! Well that’s pretty much all the information I wish to bequeath to you at this point, but I may fork over some more if you see me and say, “What’s up Gus?” And remember kids, “Be excellent to each other!”

It’s that time again!  Naturally Sharp will be hosting auditions this week for new members.  Meet us tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 8 ) at Squires Yorktown Room at 8:00PM for an audition.  Be prepared to show off your voice by singing us a short ~30sec piece of a song.  Can’t make it tomorrow?  Swing by Squires 300 at 7:00PM on Thursday (Sept. 10 ) for our second day of auditions.

The guys worked their way through 3 rounds over the course of a month, leading up to last nights final round of 12, which was then narrowed down to the final 3.  Unfortunately neither came away with the top prize but both put on a great show and certainly entertained the crowd!

Amazing job, guys!

A belated welcome to our 3 new members: Joe Artz, Donnie Brooks and Peter Hurley!

These talented singers made it through auditions and will certainly be a wonderful addition to the Naturally Sharp line up for years to come.

Let me break it down for you, I’m an Aerospace Engineering and Theatre Arts major here at Virginia Tech.  Currently I am looking at turning the worlds weirdest double major into the world weirdest double masters.  Looks like I’m coming back to tech next year as a grad student.

My interests include but are not limited to: math, computers, wakeboarding, chillin’, designing, and last but not least singing.  I hope everyone can come out and see us perform and I hope you can say we blew you away when you leave.

Auditions will be held in Squires-Yorktown at 8pm both days.

Bio:
Hey everybody! My name is Zach but most people in Natty call me G2. I’m a sophomore majoring in aerospace engineering.

Music has always been in my life, and I love to sing. I also played piano for about seven years (and I truly regret dropping it), and trumpet for four.

I love to play all sports. I ran track and field for four years in high school. I’m on the golf club team here at tech. I’ve played basketball just as long as I’ve been able to sing. I’m a BIG baseball fan (GO BRAVES)! My favorite wintertime outdoor sport by far is snowboarding and my favorite outdoor hobby is mountain biking.

All these things are just a fraction of what my life is all about though, so whoever you are, don’t be afraid to say “Hey, you’re a part of Naturally Sharp, right?”
